Yes, you probably annoy me.
The
Turkish Government
Why you annoy me:
- You refuse to
re-open the Chalke theology school. This school is responsible for training
the higher ups in the Greek Orthodox Church, thus you threaten the continued
existence of the Patriarchy of Constantinople, the only remaining
institution from the Roman Empire.
- You continue to deny
that you massacred millions of Armenians in the 1950’s. Genocide is
annoying.
- You deny that you
carried out a pogrom against Greeks in the city of Constantinople in the
early 20th Century. There were 300,000 Greeks in the city in
1900, and there were only 3,000 by 1975. I guess they all must have
disappeared by themselves.
- You renamed
Constantinople in 1930 to Istanbul out of anti-hellenic spite. In fact, you
changed all Greek city names in your country to Turkish names during the
20’s and 30’s because you wanted to erase the fact that Greeks founded them
all. What happened to Constantinople, Adrianople, Smryna, Ikonium,
Trebizond, Philedelphia, Amorium, Caesarea and Chrysolpolis to name only a
few? They never existed, according to the Turkish government.
- You force all
citizens to speak Turkish, even if Greek or Armenian or Slavic or Kurdish is
their natural language.
- At the same time you
are trying to have “Turk” stop being a racial name and start being a
national name. This is so you can force Greeks, Armenians and Kurds to
refer to themselves as Turks rather than as their actual race.
- You annoyingly claim
that Turkish people are the “native” inhabitants of Asia Minor, whereas
every historian and anthropologist in the world contends that Turks
immigrated there from central Asia and Mongolia in the 11th
century. This would be the same as American history text books teaching
that Europeans are native to America. Using psuedo-history for a racial
agenda, of which genocide is an aspect, is unjustifiable and annoying.
Possible mitigating factors:
- You are the most
progressive, secular Muslim country. That isn’t saying very much, but it
says something.
- Your people may not
have much architectural originality or any great cultural innovations, but
they are very good at copying the good things from others, which is a sign
of a strong people.
- You aren’t going to
be admitted to the EU anytime soon.
- Your geo-political
importance is declining and soon enough western countries will hold you to
task for your crimes.
