1980's Nostalgia 

 Why you annoy me:

• My generation is obsessed with 1980’s nostalgia.  Movies, music, toys, pop culture icons and even fashion.  One main problem: 95% of all that stuff sucked in the 1980’s.
• The movies of the 1980’s were horrible, by and large.  There are a few classics, like Platoon, Back to the Future, Scarface, Fast Times, and Ferris Buehler and so on.  But, we tend to remember the good and forget the bad.  For every Short Circuit there were three live action He-Man movies.  If we were all teleported back to 1981, we would not be able to handle the torrent of garbage movies every week.
• The music of the 1980’s was bad.  Synths and electronic drums are in now, but really they are not good.  There is no instrumentation, and importantly no talent.  Playing instruments with talent, coupled with good song writing will never be replaced by synths, no matter how many beeps and chimes they add.
• Pop Culture icons.  1983: Boy George.  2003:  Lindsey Lohan (pre-anorexia).  Yeah, that isn’t much of a contest.
• The fashion of the 1980’s was awful.  Half of it was unnecessary accessories like leg warmers, a second belt, superfluous acid/stone washing, calculator watches and head bands and doo rags.  The other half was ultra-androgeny.  Let’s just get it settled right now: androgeny is not cool.  Men should dress and act like men, and please, wear less makeup.  Prince is the only person who pulled this off, and even he was pushing it at times.
• Ronald Reagan.  Insufferable douche bag.

 Possible mitigating factors:

• I was born in the 1980’s.  That alone can mitigate quite a bit.
• Kids’ toys in the 80’s were actually better than kid’s toys now.  The quality then was head and shoulders better than the crap we sell to kids now.
• MTV was cool then.  Haha, just kidding.
• The internet hadn’t been invented yet, so the horrors of goatse and tubgirl were not even imagined in our worst nightmares.  What I would give to live in a world where “Kids in the Sandbox.mpeg” doesn’t exist.
