Yes, you probably annoy me.
Globalists
Why
you annoy me:
·
For some
reason the problems of China, Africa, and Central Asia are more important
to you than the problems of your own communities. The reality of the situation is, you
will do tens times more for the world by volunteering at your local
homeless shelter than you will go to a save Darfur protest.
·
Rather than
confront real, tangible problems you insist on living in a fantasy
world. Rather than adopt a black
child from a Los Angeles orphanage, Angelina Jolie flies to Africa and
adopts one there. Why? Adopting a child in Africa isn’t going
to solve any of Africa’s problems.
Heck, even if every family in America adopted a child from Africa
it wouldn’t solve any of their problems.
So why did she do this irrational thing? The media attention.
·
The bigger
point of that is that these morons really only care about appearances, the
actual issue isn’t really what is important. While Jolie and Madonna are at one end
of the spectrum, your average hipster doofus with his (red) products and
his Darfur patches are doing it for the exact same reason. Volunteering at an animal shelter in
your town isn’t nearly as hip as having a (red) ipod, is it?
·
You’re
elitists. People who “care” about
“international issues” like to cultivate an educated and informed
image. This gives them a lot of
pride. Taking pride in the image
you portray because you feel it makes you better than other people- like
these people do- is pretty disgusting.
I have no time for that sort of snobbery.
·
This trend
is also popular among newly aware liberals, who have all the ferver of a
religious convert, and about the same level of ignorance. Hey, I’m happy you’ve read your first
Chomsky book: that’s more than most people can say, but the truth of it
is you need to calm down and realize that being angry about issues you
can’t control will only leave you jaded, and it will leave issues you CAN
control unresolved. Plus it
betrays your ignorance and that isn’t good for your appearance, is it?
Possible
mitigating factors:
·
At least you
care about something. Granted you
care about it in the most trivial and superficial way, but at least you
care.
·
Those
adopted Africans are going to be so balla in 18 years when they are the
toast of Hollywood and are running around in Lamborghinis banging Lindsay
Lohan types. Better than having an
apathy toward flies and a distended belly. Lucky scamps.
·
Eventually
you’ll move onto some other fashionable trend and leave the actual
problem solving to rationalists who can actually accomplish things.
