Yes, you probably annoy me.

Sony

Why you annoy me:

  • You were once a highly profitable company that was on the bleeding edge of technological innovation.
  • Now you are an unprofitable company that is at least 5 years behind your competitors in most areas.
  • Apple came out with the iPod several years ago.  Since they they have release at least 5 new generations of iPods and each was significantly better than the generation before.  Sony has yet to release an mp3 player that rivals the FIRST iPod, let alone anything that holds a candle to the current iPod video.
  • Sony's digital cameras and digital video cameras are merely average.  Unfortunately, they use proprietary (a common flaw with Sony) memory sticks that cost double what an open format would.
  • Sony's video game systems have been declining.  The PSP was an unfortunate flop.  It's been out for well over a year and there are still no must own games for it.  Would it be too much to ask for a decent RPG, a good fighting game like Soul Calibur, Gran Turismo, or even a football game that isn't bug riddled?
  • The Playstation 3 appears like it will be a colossal flop.  Time will tell on that one.
  • "Sony's receivers sound tinny."
  • How many R and D dollars were poured into the development of that robot dog?  If it was more than a dollar fifty you probably made a huge mistake.
  • You will lose the next gen DVD format war.  Blu Ray is doomed.  Remember what happened last time you pushed a format people don't care about?

Possible mitigating factors:

  • In the past you had some great products.  While the business world is very much a "what have you done for me lately", Sony has clearly been successful in the past and they did make some very good decisions at one time.
  • Sony has more money than God and they can afford to take a few losses in order to come out with a superior product down the road.
  • Sony television sets are pretty darn good.
  • I fully expect Sony to rebound in the future.
